Md Shamsuzzoha is a faculty member since 2010 and Chairman (2012-2019 and 2023-till today) of the Department of Emergency Management, Faculty of Environmental Science & Disaster Management, Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), Bangladesh. He achieved Doctor of Philosophy in Bioresource Engineering (https://tsukuba.repo.nii.ac.jp/records/2008644) of the course titled 'Appropriate Technology and Sciences for Sustainable Development' from the Bio-production and Machinery (BPM) Lab, Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences, the University of Tsukuba, Japan as a full-time Ph.D. Fellow (Foreign, 2019-2023) of the Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship (BSTF) Trust, Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. His Ph.D. Thesis was titled: Assessment of Agricultural Land Use Change in Onshore Coastal Regions Due to Extreme Climatic Events Using Machine Learning and Remote Sensing (機械学習とリモートセンシングを用いた極端な気候変動による陸上沿岸地域の農業用地変化の評価).
He is also an alumnus (from 2012) of the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente; Enschede, The Netherlands. He achieved a Certificate in Remote Sensing and GIS for Natural Hazard Assessment (Short Course, Modules 5-7, these modules are part of the Master of Science in Applied Earth Sciences). Earlier, he received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, in 2007 and 2008, respectively. He was an accredited individual member of the 'International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE)' for the year 2017 and is a member of the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU), Japanese Society of Agricultural Informatics (JSAI), and Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh (JUAAB) individually.
He visited the University of Salford, Manchester as a collaborating researcher and presented a research paper at the 'Breaking the Mould' international conference at the University of Durham, UK, in 2012. In addition, he participated in the (i) International Summer School on Academic Writing on Global South Studies in 2015 at the Institute of Geography, University of Cologne, Cologne, Germany, as a (ii) co-moderator of the 'Sino-South Asia Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Summit' in 2017 at the Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR), Sichuan University-Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China, and as one of the (iii) guest speakers in the 11th Aceh International Workshop and Expo on Sustainable Tsunami Disaster Recovery (AIWEST-DR) in 2018 of the Special Session on Increasing Coastal Cities Resilience Towards Impacts of Natural Hazards in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Meanwhile, he has academic visit experiences also in Malaysia (2011), UAE (2012), India (2015), China (2016, 2017), Thailand (2017), Hong Kong (2017), Sri Lanka (2020, 2023), Pakistan (2024) and Nepal (2024) respectively.
