Dr. Md. Sujahangir Kabir Sarkar is a professor in the Department of Economics
and Sociology at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU),
Bangladesh. He is currently working as the Dean of the Faculty of Business
Administration, and Chairman of his Department at PSTU. Dr. Sarkar has been
awarded prestigious JSPS post-doctoral fellowship from JSPS, Japan, and worked
as a JSPS post-doctoral researcher in the Institute for the Advanced Study of
Sustainability at the United Nations University, Tokyo, Japan. He also got
another post-doctoral fellowship from National Energy University (Universiti
Tenaga Nasional), Malaysia where he worked in the Institute for Energy Policy
and Research. He received his PhD in
climatic hazards from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia where he
involved as a research fellow in the Institute for Environment and Development.
He obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) and MS in agricultural economics from Bangladesh
Agricultural University. In his 17 years of teaching and research career, Dr.
Sarkar has published 38 journal articles in different international referred
journals. His work, funded by various national and international bodies
including PSTU, BARC, BLRI, DANIDA for conducting researcher on various issues
such as climate impacts on crop and fish, marketing risk assessment, micro
credit, SDGs, rising food price impacts, disaster and community resilience. Dr.
Sarkar has attended in various international conferences and visited a number
of countries including Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Turkey, France,
Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. Dr. Sarkar has conducted research in local,
national and regional scale. His research area covers environmental and
development economics, farm economics, climate change, sustainable development,
SDGs, and community resilience. He applies various econometric models in both
quantitative and qualitative study. Through his study, Dr. Sarkar is trying to
contribute national and local development with
special focus on sustainable development, economic, environment and climate
issues.
