Professor Dr. Md. Sazedul Hoque is current Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) and former Chairman of the Department of Fisheries Technology at PSTU, Bangladesh. Dr. Sazedul obtained his PhD from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. Before that, he has completed his BSc in Fisheries (Hons) and MSc in Fisheries Technology from Bangladesh Agricultural University. His academics, research career and international networking is further strengthened by attending more than 50 international and national seminars, workshops, and training programs in many Asian, European, and American countries; and publishing more than 60 journal articles in the reputed journals and successful running of about 30 national and international research projects.
As Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. Sazedul has successfully completed 25 research projects and currently 04 research projects are running which are funded by different international agencies like International Funds for Fishing Safety (IFFS), the Seafarer’s Charity, FISH Platform, and LIoyd’s Register Foundation of the United Kingdom; Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) and Ocean Conservancy of the United States; FISH Safety Foundation, New Zealand, Danish Development Agency-DANDA, Denmark; World-Bank through the Department of Fisheries (DoF) Bangladesh; and International Foundation for Science-IFS, Sweden. In addition, he also awarded for research grants from national bodies like Bangladesh Academy of Science-United States Department of Agriculture BAS-USDA, Grant for Advanced Research in Education-GARE of the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh; Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council-Program Based Research Grants (BARC-PBRG); University Grants Commission-UGC of Bangladesh; Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) of Bangladesh special allocation for research from the Honorable Prime Minister of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh; WorldFish; Research and Training Center of PSTU (RTC-PSTU). Dr. Sazedul was an in-country (Bangladesh) host partner of fishSAFE2025: Fishing Safety Intervention Program in Bangladesh, a collaborative project implemented by the FISH Safety Foundation, New Zealand. As a researcher Dr Sazedul is well-known and recognized scientist having wide-international collaboration with the academicians, researchers and development workers globally.
Prof. Dr. Sazedul research interests are in safe sea-fishing, IUU-fishing, ghost fishing gears, marine pollution and conservation, occupational health & safety (OSH), safe seafood, micro-plastic in aqua-foods (aquaculture and mariculture products), seafood safety and contaminants; sensory, microbial and nutritional quality of seafood products, seafood science and technology, seafood processing and quality control, value-added seafood product development, post-harvest quality and value-chain analysis of fish and fishery products, livelihood improvement of small-scale/artisanal sea-going fishers, capacity building training and awareness development among coastal fishing communities in respect to sea-safety, pollution, climate change and fisheries.
During his academic and research life, Dr. Sazedul has published more than 65 articles in international peer-reviewed reputed journals having high impact factors of which total number of citations 1928, h-index 20 and i10-index 35 [October 25, 2025]. Also, he has presented and participated in more than 50 international and national conferences in home and abroad with recognition of many of best oral presentation awards.
