The Postgraduate Studies (PGS) program at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) offers advanced educational opportunities aimed at cultivating a high level of expertise in various scientific, technological, and agricultural disciplines. The program is designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge, cutting-edge research skills, and practical experience to address contemporary challenges in their fields of study. PSTU's PGS program includes Master’s and Ph.D. degrees, with a curriculum that integrates theoretical coursework, laboratory experiments, and field-based research. i. Inauguration: Postgraduate studies program starts from July-December’2007 session. 

ii. Degrees Offered: LLM, MBA, MS and PhD. 

iii. Departments Involved: Near about 50 departments involved in postgraduate program. 

iv. Degrees Awarded: Near about 2598 master and 35 PhD students upto JD’2023 semester.

Key Activities of PGS

Policy Formulation & Coordination

  • Develops and updates rules and regulations for postgraduate education.
  • Coordinates postgraduate activities across ~47 departments.

Admissions & Registration

  • Oversees student admissions, eligibility checks, enrolments, and ID/roll allocations.
  • Ensures transparency and standardization of admission procedures.

Curriculum & Course Management

  • Approves course contents and credit structures for each program.
  • Monitors academic calendars, semester schedules, and grading systems.

Examination & Evaluation

  • Supervises internal and final examinations, thesis defenses, and result publication.
  • Maintains grading scales, GPA/CGPA systems, and disciplinary procedures.

Research & Thesis Supervision

  • Approves supervisors, co-supervisors, and research topics.
  • Manages thesis evaluation, external examiner selection, and defense committees.
  • Maintains research ethics and academic integrity.

Documentation & Publication

  • Publishes the PGS Manual, academic guidelines, and related circulars.
  • Keeps digital and hard copies of theses in the university library and central archives.

Committee Management

  • The Postgraduate Studies Committee (PGSC) includes the Vice-Chancellor (Chair), Pro-VC, all Faculty Deans, Registrar, and Dean (PGS) as Member Secretary.
  • Ensures academic quality and policy enforcement.

Academic Support

  • Provides workshops and training on thesis writing, research methods, and data analysis.
  • Maintains communication with departments, students, and external examiners.

Automation & Modernization

  • Introduces online result processing, and digital thesis archiving.
  • Promotes digital communication for postgraduate students.

International and Collaborative Efforts

  • Encourages collaboration with research organizations, foreign universities, and industries.
  • Facilitates foreign student admissions and research partnerships.
