The Department of Agronomy at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) is one of the university’s oldest and largest departments. It consists of twelve faculty members, including 6 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, and 2 Lecturers, along with one officer and three support staff. The department aims to contribute to the advancement of Bangladesh’s agricultural economy by providing academic leadership and producing competent graduates in the field of agronomy.
Agronomy focuses on the interactions among crops, soil, and the environment, with the primary objective of enhancing crop productivity. The department is engaged in the sustainable improvement of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, and industrial crops to ensure adequate food production for the country’s growing population and to provide raw materials for emerging agro-industries. It offers academic programs at the BS, MS, and PhD levels.
The department provides research facilities for both field and laboratory-based studies in various areas of crop production, including stand establishment, crop physiology, ecophysiology, crop management, cropping systems, climate change, environmental stresses, GIS and remote sensing, seed science and technology, weed science, and weed management.
